BIGESO objects to talks in the UK on Gurkha recruitment
KATHMANDU:- The British Gurkha Ex-Servicemen’s Organization (BIGESO) has expressed objection to the recent talks regarding Gurkha soldiers held in the UK.
Addressing a press conference in Kathmandu on Thursday, BIGESO accused the government of attempting to perpetuate the 1947 Tripartite Agreement on Gurkha recruitment—signed between Nepal, India, and the UK—instead of implementing the Supreme Court’s verdict.
BIGESO Senior Advisor Pari Thapa stated that the agreement should be scrapped, claiming it has become a means for the exploitation of Nepali citizens. Chairman Padamsundar Limbu remarked that the talks held in London were unacceptable as the court’s order had not been implemented.
BIGESO has also raised issues concerning Gurkha soldiers’ pensions, citizenship, family rights, and service benefits, as well as the problems faced by Gurkhas serving in the Singapore Police.
The organization has stated that it will continue its legal and political efforts to secure the abrogation of the 1947 Tripartite Agreement and to end the alleged discrimination against Gurkha soldiers.
