Bhotekoshi flash flood: Nepal, China agree to exchange meteorological information

RASUWA:- An agreement on the exchange of meteorological details between Nepal and China has reached between the two sides.

It was agreed in a meeting between the two sides held on Wednesday to discuss flash floods in Bhotekoshi in Rasuwa and Trishuli river system.

The officials from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) and the Chinese Meteorological Administration (CMA) signed the agreement in presence of officials from the Chinese Embassy in Nepal.

Department’s director general Dr Archana Shrestha confirmed the reaching of the agreement. Department’s spokesperson Bibhuti Pokharel said further study on the cause of the flash flood is awaited.

There are no records of heavy rains in both affected areas of Nepal and China. During the discussions, the Chinese side apprised that no significant rainfall was recorded towards the Chinese territory and there were no strong basis to say that the floods were due to the rains.

The Chinese side agreed to immediately inform Nepal in case of any meteorology-related risk or impact towards the territory in the northern side. RSS
