Mugu’s Gamgadhi-Nakchelagna road blocked due to incessant rainfall
MUGU:- The road section between Lums and Gamgadhi along the Gamgadhi–Nakchelagna route has been blocked due to continuous, heavy rainfall. Vehicular movement has come to a complete halt as landslides have occurred at various locations and the road is covered with accumulated mud and soil.
The road blockage has caused serious difficulties for local residents, general travelers, and the transport of essential supplies. Although vehicles can operate between Gamgadhi and Chhayal in Mugum Karmarong, travelers moving beyond that point or commuting to and from the district headquarters are forced to undertake perilous journeys on foot. Locals report that travel has become extremely arduous due to landslides and thick mud in various places.
According to Pema Thille Lama, a local resident of Mah in Mugum Karmarong Rural Municipality-7, incessant rainfall has left the road in a deplorable condition. Noting that landslides at multiple locations between Lums and Gamgadhi have brought transportation to a standstill, he has urged the concerned authorities to restore the road to operation immediately.
Karsang Lama, another local resident of the same ward, stated that the problem of road blockages recurs as soon as the rainy season begins. Noting the direct impact of road closures on the sick, students, general travelers, and the supply of essential commodities, he emphasized the need to focus on the long-term repair and maintenance of the road.
Continuous rainfall is hampering efforts to clear the road. As the rain persists, there remains a significant risk of further landslides. Local authorities have urged the public to avoid traveling on the hazardous road unless absolutely necessary and have stated that the road will be reopened by clearing the debris as soon as weather conditions improve.
Locals have expressed anger and frustration over the lack of effective measures to find a permanent solution to this recurring annual problem.
