Summer Picnic and Community Gathering Concludes in Colorado
By Nati Babu Bhatta, COLORADO:- A summer picnic, organized with the aim of fostering interaction, coordination, and goodwill among Nepali speakers in Colorado, concluded on Sunday with a variety of activities.
The picnic organized by the Rocky Mountain Friends of Nepal—held on Sunday from 3 PM to 8 PM at a scenic park in Northglenn—was attended by office bearers of active Colorado-based organizations, intellectuals, social workers, children, artists, businesspeople, journalists, and other dignitaries, as well as Nepali-speaking community members.
To enhance the entertainment and ensure active participation from everyone, various games were organized during the picnic; these included Coke, Fanta, and Sprite-themed games for children, as well as a quiz, Bingo, and a raffle draw for all attendees. Officials from the organizing committee, including President Hari Gurung, honored the winners—who secured first, second, and third places in the competitions—by presenting them with cash prizes and iPads.
The event saw an enthusiastic turnout of people of all ages—children, the elderly, and the youth—with some attendees proudly displaying symbols of their Nepali identity. Held in a scenic park near a large lake, the event offered attendees the chance to enjoy themselves by taking boat rides around the lake.
Some of the food served at the picnic was provided courtesy of local restaurants, while other dishes were prepared at home by members of the organization’s executive committee and brought to the venue for distribution.
Hari Gurung, President of the organizing organization, welcomed everyone and thanked all those who attended and helped make the event a success; he explained that the picnic was organized not only to provide entertainment for the Nepali-speaking community residing in the area but also to foster unity, harmony, and a spirit of mutual cooperation among them.
Similarly, Narayan Shrestha, President of Helping Hands and a social worker, thanked the organization for continuing the initiative—launched many years ago—to unite the Nepali-speaking community. The program was conducted by Rekha Deurali, Cultural Secretary of Rocky Mountain Friends of Nepal.
