Nepali Congress unity faction to hold national gathering on August 5

KATHMANDU:- Amidst the ongoing dispute within the Nepali Congress between the leadership elected through the special general convention and that elected through the 14th general convention, a campaign advocating for the unification of both factions has announced plans to hold a national gathering in the capital on Shrawan 20, (August 5).

At a press conference held here today, the ‘Campaign to Unite the Nation and the Congress’ announced plans to organize a gathering in the capital for leaders and cadres who advocate for party unity. Speaking at the event, Congress leader and National Assembly member Ranjit Karna stated that Party General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa and Dr. Shashank Koirala—who was named coordinator at a press conference in Chundevi on Saturday—must work towards uniting the party.

Former Central Member Nain Singh Mahar announced that a gathering is scheduled for Shrawan 20 with the aim of pressuring for party unity, noting that the weakening of the Congress party undermines both democracy and nationalism. He stated that a campaign to unite the Congress has been launched today, recognizing the necessity of party unity. Leader Mahar further mentioned that 1,359 representatives have registered to participate in the gathering.

At the program, Ananda Tripathi, Mayor of Bhanu Municipality in Tanahun, urged elected representatives from across the country to support the campaign of uniting the Congress party and connecting the nation with the party.
