Prohibition continues for second day amid ongoing tension in Sunsari

SUNSARI:- A curfew has been reimposed in various parts of Sunsari district on Tuesday—the second day of such measures. The District Administration Office of Sunsari reinstated the curfew in the affected areas after local movement on the streets began to increase, despite the restrictions having been lifted earlier in the morning.

The District Administration Office announced that the curfew has been enforced in seven market areas in the southern part of the district and will remain in effect until further notice.

In accordance with an order issued by Sunsari’s Chief District Officer Ishwari Aryal, and pursuant to Section 6(a) of the Local Administration Act, 2028, a ban has been imposed on the gathering of more than four people—as well as activities such as processions, demonstrations, assemblies, meetings, and sit-ins—in designated areas, effective from 7:00 AM on Tuesday.

The administration has stated that individuals violating the prohibitory order may face a fine of up to one thousand rupees, imprisonment for up to one month, or both, in accordance with prevailing laws.

The areas subject to the prohibitory order include Harinagar, Bhutaha, Kaptan-ganj, Ghuski, Nuniya Tol, and Dewan-ganj market areas. The order also delineates the eastern, western, northern, and southern boundaries of these areas.

The District Administration Office stated that the prohibitory order has been issued to maintain law and order and prevent potential untoward incidents.

On Sunday night, 24-year-old Omprakash Mehta of Kaptanganj, Dewanganj Rural Municipality-3, died after being struck by police gunfire during a clash between two groups. Several protesters were injured by police fire; police have stated that two of the injured are in critical condition.
