128 migrants crossed English Channel in a small boat on Friday
LONDON:- On Friday, a small boat carrying 128 people crossed the English Channel. This marks the highest number of people ever recorded making the crossing in a single boat.
A total of 225 migrants crossed the Channel in three boats that day. So far this year, more than 12,000 people have reached the UK using small boats, a figure that is 44 percent lower than during the same period last year.
The spokesperson stated that smuggling rings are taking much greater risks than before. The practice of cramming people into unsafe boats has been increasing year by year. Previously, the record for the highest number of migrants on a single boat stood at 125.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has further emphasized that this incident makes it clear that criminal groups have no regard for the safety of the very people they claim to support. The reality is that, as a result, people are losing their lives.
We have entered into a new agreement with France to prevent such dangerous journeys. Under this agreement, security surveillance and enforcement actions along the coastlines will be intensified; as a result, more than 45,000 attempted illegal crossings have been prevented since the election alone.
