ICE urges against releasing accused of sexual assault Janio Gionel Velasquez-Muro

WASHINGTON:- U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has urged Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker not to release a Venezuelan immigrant from jail who was arrested on charges of kidnapping and sexually abusing a child in Kane County, Illinois.
According to ICE, Janio Jionel Velasquez-Muro, a Venezuelan migrant, followed a 9-year-old girl who was riding her bicycle in Pingree Grove, forcibly took her into a nearby vehicle, and sexually assaulted her. The suspect initially fled the scene but was later arrested on June 30, 2026, through forensic evidence. Velasquez-Muro now faces charges of aggravated kidnapping of a child, predatory criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual assault, and child sexual exploitation.
DHS Assistant Secretary Lauren Bisse stated, “Venezuelan migrant Janio Jionel Velasquez-Muro kidnapped and sexually abused a 9-year-old girl. Velasquez-Muro abducted the girl while she was riding her bicycle. We urge DHS Governor J.B. Pritzker and ‘sanctuary’ states to commit to not releasing such child sex offenders from jail.”
According to the DHS, Velasquez-Muro entered the United States illegally via California in 2022.
