RUKUM:- A woman died and six others were injured after being caught in a flood carrying mud and debris in Gairigaun, Jagdulla Rural Municipality-5, Dolpa.
Anandi BK, a 56-year-old local resident, lost her life after being swept away by the flood. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Anilraj Giri, the chief of the District Police Office, Dolpa, a flood laden with mud and silt—triggered by continuous rainfall—entered the village from the Dhula Khola stream around 3:00 AM.
Upon receiving reports that floodwaters had entered and damaged approximately eight houses, a police team from the Majhgaun Police Post—assisted by locals—located and rescued Anandi BK, who had been buried inside one of the homes.
DSP Giri stated that she passed away while being transported to the Kaigaun Health Post for treatment. An additional police team, led by Police Inspector Padam Rawal from the District Police Office, Dolpa, has arrived at the scene.
According to the police, six other people were injured in the flood. The injured individuals have been identified as Chauri BK (approx. 50), Reuli BK (44), Vishnu BK (48), Niruta BK (15), Sita BK (13), and Jas BK (65), all residents of the same village.
Five of the injured have been discharged, while one remains in critical condition. The latter has been referred to a well-equipped hospital for further treatment.
Police have stated that they are collecting detailed details of the damage caused by the flood and further rescue and relief work is underway. Coordination is being made to rescue the seriously injured by helicopter or take them to a hospital in nearby Jumla.
