‘Nepal-Spain trade relations will be further strengthened if business-to-business partnerships expand’

By Dinesh Giri, MADRID:- The ‘Nepal-Spain Business Forum 2026’ organized in the Spanish capital Madrid on Monday focused on enhancing cooperation between Spanish investors and businessmen and the Nepalese government and private sector.

The forum, organized by the Nepali Embassy in Madrid, aimed to expand trade and investment cooperation by bridging the gap between Spanish investors and businessmen and the Nepalese government and private sectors.

The program was attended by government officials and representatives of the business community from Nepal and Spain. In the inaugural session of the forum, Acting Ambassador Purak Adhikari welcomed the participants and said that the program was organized with the objective of further strengthening business relations between Nepal and Spain and expanding partnerships in areas with high potential for cooperation.

He also introduced the generational Nepali industries based on ethically sourced raw materials and indigenous technology. Executive Director of the Nepal Trade and Export Promotion Center, Navin Raj Sharma, presented statistics on Nepal-Spain textile trade and provided information about the potential of Nepali textile products in the Spanish market.

He presented various Nepali textile and ready-made clothing products that could increase their appeal among Spanish consumers. Nepal Exporters Federation President Govinda Ghimire and Vice President Devananda Saraogi presented on the history and structure of Nepal-Spain trade, highlighting the competitive features of Nepali textiles and jewelry made from natural fibers such as Chyangra wool, Himalayan sheep wool, hemp, and sisno.

They noted that there is a growing attraction in the international niche market for handmade silver jewellery, rosaries and traditional ornaments. Pashupati Dev Pandey, President of the Nepal Garment Association, said that the Nepali readymade garment industry has made significant progress in recent years due to legal and policy reforms. He stressed the need for continued collaboration between the business communities of both countries.

Luis Rodriguez, Deputy Director of International Relations at the Spanish Chamber of Commerce and Industry, provided information about the dynamics of Spain’s jewelry and fashion industry, saying that Spanish consumers are increasingly attracted to unique international products.

He expressed his belief that Nepal-Spain trade relations would be further strengthened if business-to-business partnerships were expanded. The program, which concluded with a question-and-answer and networking session, was attended by representatives of the Spanish textile and jewelry industry, investment promotion agencies, government officials, and representatives of the Spanish media, according to the Nepali Embassy in Madrid.
