50 landless settlers from Balkhu and Bansighat get registered

KATHMANDU:- A total of 50 families who left the river-side settlement in Balkhu and Bansighat in Kathmandu have registered themselves for government support in resettlement and rehabilitation.

The families reached Dasharath Stadium as of Friday afternoon and submitted their details, stating that they do not own a house, land, ancestral property and have low income sources. A joint team of the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction, Kathmandu Valley Development Authority, the High Powered Committee for Integrated Development of Bagmati Civilization and Kathmandu Metropolitan Police are collecting their details at the temporary office set up in the Dasharath Stadium premises in Tripureswar.

Preparations are being made to take the families to the designated ‘holding centers’ after conducting health check-ups and counseling. Many temporary holding centres have been set up in TEWA building in Dhapakhel in Lalitpur, the Nepal Electricity Authority, Training Center in Kharipati in Bhaktapur, the Agricultural Development Bank Training Center in Bode, the Nagarkot Drinking Water Training Center, the Vegetable Market Management Center in Chobhar in Kathmandu and the Kavre Holding Center.

Machakaji Maharjan, project director of the High Powered Committee for Integrated Development of Bagmati Civilization confirmed that the squatters who have arrived at Dasharath Stadium will be sent to the holding centers after their details are collected and registered.
