KATHMANDU:- Police are preparing to bring CPN-UML leader and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Nepali Congress leader and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak to the Kathmandu District Police Range, Bhadrakali, for statements on Wednesday. The district court had initially granted a five-day remand order against the duo, which is being extended as it was deemed insufficient.
They were first arrested on Saturday morning (March 28) following recommendations from the Gen Z Movement Investigation Commission led by Gauri Bahadur Karki,
which suggested action over a criminal case carrying a sentence of three to ten years.
The extended custody is based
on a complaint from the family of Gen Z Martyr Rasik Khatri, who died during the movement on September 8, 2025.
His mother, Rachana Khatri, is currently a proportional representation MP from Rastriya Swatantra Party. Investigations are proceeding based on this complaint.
After their arrests, Oli was admitted to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj for medical treatment, while Lekhak is held at Nepal Police Number 2 Battalion in Samakhushi. The investigation and prosecution are being handled by the Kathmandu District Police Range, Bhadrakali.
Police Spokesperson and Superintendent of Police (SP) Pawan Kumar Bhattarai confirmed preparations to bring them for statements on Wednesday.
Meanehile, Joint Secretary and then Kathmandu CDO Chhabi Lal Rijal was arrested on Tuesday; however, his statement will not be taken on Wednesday.
SP Bhattarai said that Oli’s health may prevent him from giving a statement on Wednesday, in which case it will be scheduled for another day. Due to his health issues, he participated via video conference for custody extension hearing. If both can give statements on Wednesday, the extended custody will continue through Thursday.
Meanwhile, the TU Teaching Hospital on Monday night also said Oli now recuperating can be discharged from the hospital citing his medical condition as fair.
“The statement does not have to be taken tomorrow (Wednesday). It can be done when his health allows and remains normal,” Bhattarai said. Police will request a further extension from the district court if necessary.

to allow for the review and analysis of case documents and investigation reports.
