Dr. Hemraj Sharma unanimously elected NRNA President

KATHMANDU:-  After internal strife and repeated divisions, Dr. Hemraj Sharma has been unanimously elected as the president of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) at its 12th general convention in Kathmandu.

Dr. Sharma, who works at the University of Liverpool in the UK, had emerged as the leading contender for the post of president. The path to becoming president unopposed was paved after other presidential candidates Robin Sherchan and Robin Bajracharya withdrew their candidacies at the last minute.

Earlier, four of the seven presidents of the association were elected through competitive elections, while Upendra Mahato, Jiba Lamichhane, and Devman Hirachan were the only ones who became president unanimously. With the election of Dr. Sharma, a unanimous leadership has been established in the NRNA for the post of president after about 13 years.

It is said that during the general convention, an agreement was also reached on other positions of the new working committee of the association. Sources have said that there is a possibility of unanimous leadership selection for a total of 69 positions, including the president.

The closing ceremony of the 12th general convention underway in Kathmandu has been scheduled for tomorrow, and the Prime Minister is scheduled to conclude the program, according to the organizers.
