88 days left for HoR election: Programmes for proportional electoral system begin from today

KATHMANDU:- The Election Commission (EC) of Nepal has intensified preparations for the House of Representatives (HoR) election, scheduled for March 5, 2026, which is 88 days away.

The political parties have also expedited internal preparations for the upcoming polls.

The EC is running programmes for the proportional electoral system from today.

As announced by the EC, political parties willing to participate in the proportional electoral system must submit their applications from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm today for the proportional electoral system.

The list of political parties submitting the application for the proportional electoral system would be published on December 10.

The political parties should submit the closed list of candidates under the proportional electoral system on December 28 and 29.

Likewise, the final list of the candidates will be released from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on February 13, 2026, the EC stated.

Of the 275 HoR Members, 110 parliamentarians are elected under the proportional electoral system as per the Constitution of Nepal.

As per the FPTP electoral system, the nomination will be held from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Office of the Returning Officer on January 20, 2026 and the list of the candidates will be released on the same day.

Likewise, the final name list of the candidates under the FPTP system will be released from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on January 23 and the candidates will be provided the election symbol on the same date.

As per the approved election programme, the voting will take place in the voting centres from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on March 5.
