73rd International Everest Day celebrated in Portugal

LISBON:- The 73rd International Everest Day has also been celebrated in the European country of Portugal.

The 73rd International Everest Day was celebrated with a special program in the capital Lisbon, organized by the Nepali Embassy in Portugal.

Speaking on the occasion, Nepal’s Ambassador to Portugal Prakash Mani Poudel discussed the achievements of Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary, the first climbers of Mount Everest, and described the achievement as a symbol of the courage, endurance, and determination displayed by mankind.

He emphasized the need to preserve the ecological environment of the Himalayan region and preserve its importance for future generations.

Portuguese mountaineer Joao Garcia, while sharing his experience of climbing mountains including Mount Everest, praised the hospitality of the Nepalis. He has successfully climbed 14 of the world’s highest mountains without using supplemental oxygen.

Ambassador Poudel honored Garcia, a Mount Everest climber, with a Dhaka cap, food, and a sign of love.

On the occasion, a video on the history of mountaineering and natural and cultural heritage of Nepal was also screened with the aim of promoting Nepal’s tourism. In addition, Nepali artists based in Portugal gave musical performances.

The program was attended by officials from the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other government agencies, ambassadors and diplomats from various countries, representatives of the tourism and business sectors, and the Nepali community, according to the embassy.
