66 Nepali illegal immigrants living in Cambodia urged to return to Nepal as soon as possible

BANGKOK:-  66 Nepali illegal immigrants living in Cambodia have been urged to return to Nepal as soon as possible.

Nepali citizens in Cambodia have been requested to arrange tickets with connecting flights as soon as possible and return to Nepal by 12 June 2026, according to a notice issued by the Nepali Embassy in Bangkok on Sunday.

The Cambodian government has facilitated the return of 602 Nepali citizens who have overstayed their visas after reaching Cambodia for various purposes, by waiving visa fees and fines.

However, despite contact via email, phone and WhatsApp, a large number of Nepali citizens have not shown any willingness to return to Nepal.

The Cambodian government has made arrangements to investigate foreign nationals who fail to return to their country within the stipulated time and punish them with fines of up to US$500,000 and life imprisonment, depending on the nature of the offense, according to its new law.

Nepali nationals living in hiding in Cambodia without legal basis have been warned that under Cambodia’s new legal system, they will be immediately arrested and face severe legal punishment.
