MYAGDI:- A total of 107.3 megawatts of electricity generated from three hydropower projects along the Rahughat River and its tributaries in Myagdi district has been successfully connected to the national transmission grid.
The construction of the three projects was recently completed by the private sector – Upper Rahughat Hydropower Project (48.5 MW), Chimkhola-Rahughat-Mangale Hydropower Project (37.5 MW), and Thulokhola Hydropower Project (21.3 MW).
All these projects fall within the Raghuganga Rural Municipality of the district.
The Upper Rahughat Hydropower Project, promoted by Tundi Power, has started trial production since Wednesday, having constructed the dam, tunnel, power house, transmission line, switchyard, equipment installation and internal testing.
Project Chief Indra Dhakal said that the project, which was started in 2020, was completed within the time frame due to the support and cooperation of the rural municipality and the local level.
The tunnel of this project, which has a dam at Chimkhola in Raghuganga Rural Municipality-7 and a power house at Dagnam, in Ward No. 4, is 4,900 metres long.
A 680-metre-long penstock pipeline has been installed from the outlet to the power house.
Similarly, the Chimkhola-Rahughat-Mangale Hydropower Project, also built by Tundi Power, has been in commercial production since June 2025.
Similarly, the Thulokhola Hydropower Project, built by Samyukta Urja Limited, has started commercial production since August this year.
The 40-MW Rahughat and 22.5-MW Upper Thulokhola Hydropower Projects, which are under construction on the Rahughat River, have reached their final stages.
Chairman of Raghuganga Rural Municipality Bhabha Bahadur Bhandari expressed his belief that the hydropower projects built in the rural municipality will open the door to development and prosperity. He said that the project has created employment at the local level, making the economic sector dynamic.
He added that once the project was completed, the rural municipality would start receiving electricity royalties and that the development of the municipality would gain momentum. Those affected by the project would be able to benefit from it by investing in shares, he said.
The electricity generated from the projects has been temporarily connected to the national transmission system from the switchyard of the Rahughat Hydropower Project located in Tilkenichour, Raghuganga Rural Municipality-3.
