Over 8,000 prisoners return to prisons

KATHMANDU:- A total of 8,000 inmates, out of 14,549 who moved out of 28 prisons and correctional homes during the recent Gen-Z demonstrations, have returned to custody, according to the Department of Prison Management.

Of those who returned, 7,713 were from prisons and 341 from correctional homes. Some returned voluntarily, while others were brought back by security forces.

As of now, 6,494 individuals remain out of contact: 872 from prisons and 622 from correctional homes. In total, 13,585 escaped from prisons and 964 from correctional homes during the protest held on September 8-9.

Additionally, 10 prisoners have died amidst this period.
