NCNC provides $72,000 in assistance to flood and landslide victims
NORTH CAROLINA:- To provide relief and assistance to families affected by the devastating floods and landslides that struck Nepal about a month and a half ago, the US-based Nepal Center of North Carolina (NCNC) has handed over a check worth 72,000 US dollars—equivalent to approximately 11.1 million Nepali rupees—for deposit into the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.
The cheque was handed over to Nepal’s Finance Minister, Dr. Swarnim Wagle, during a ceremony held at the Embassy of Nepal in Washington, D.C., on Monday afternoon. A team of NCNC officials—led by NCNC President Dadin Pandey and including Shyam Aryal and Dr. Pallavi Sharma—presented the cheque to Finance Minister Wagle.
On the occasion, Finance Minister Wagle remarked that the assistance provided by Nepali organizations abroad in the wake of the country’s natural disaster exemplifies a spirit of generosity. Noting that such support brings significant relief to affected families, he thanked NCNC for their contribution. He also acknowledged the support provided by numerous other Nepali organizations in the United States for relief and rescue efforts.
During the cheque handover ceremony, NCNC President Pandey spoke about the organization’s history, objectives, and role within the community, as well as the contributions NCNC has made to the Nepali community in North Carolina. He expressed heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the individuals, organizations, families, business owners, and community groups who contributed to this humanitarian initiative according to their means.
Noting that such assistance reflects unity, love, and solidarity among disaster-affected Nepalis, he said, “When Nepal suffers, our hearts ache with it.”
Chairperson Pandey announced that the fundraising campaign will run until October 31. According to him, a five-kilometer run and walk event titled “Walk for Nepal” is being organized next week. The event aims to raise approximately 10,000 US dollars. He appealed to everyone to participate in the campaign and contribute.
In support of the NCNC’s disaster relief campaign, contributions were made as follows: ‘Dedicated to Our Community of North Carolina’ ($12,111), the Kanu Patel Divo Foundation ($5,002), Niral Shantilal Patel ($5,150), and Ishwar and Kamala Devkota ($3,001).
