Xavier and Golden Gate win intercollegiate basketball tournament
KATHMANDU:- Xavier International College and GoldenGate International College won the titles at the inaugural Paradise Inter-College Basketball Tournament on Saturday. Xavier emerged as champions in the boys’ category, while GoldenGate triumphed in the girls’ category.
In the boys’ final held at the Paradise Sports Academy hall in Saibaba Chowk, Tokha Municipality, Xavier defeated CCRC 67–54. Mahendra Pyakurel contributed 19 points to the victory.
After taking a 16–11 lead in the first quarter, Xavier fell behind 14–18 in the second. However, by winning the third and fourth quarters 17–7 and 20–18 respectively, Xavier secured the title.
In the girls’ title clash, GoldenGate defeated NIMS 35–30, aided by Angel Gupta’s 15 points. GoldenGate established a 9–6 lead in each of the first two quarters. NIMS claimed the third quarter 11–4, taking a one-point overall lead, but GoldenGate secured the victory by outscoring NIMS 13–7 in the decisive fourth quarter.
Roshan Nagarkoti of Xavier (boys’ category) and Angel of GoldenGate (girls’ category) were named the ‘Most Valuable Players.’ Winners were awarded prizes at a ceremony attended by figures including Narendra Thapa, General Secretary of the Nepal Basketball Association, and Badri Mahat, President of the organizing academy. Fifteen boys’ teams and seven girls’ teams participated in the eight-day tournament.
